Sixth form students at Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys explored the technology and STEM career opportunities behind geospatial surveying during a recent visit from Plowman Craven.
Jonathan McDaid, Head of Technical Delivery – Infrastructure, and Zara McGregor, Chief UAS Pilot – Infrastructure, delivered a careers session introducing students to the ways surveyors capture and measure the world around us. They explained how accurate survey information supports the planning, design and delivery of buildings and infrastructure, and explored the role of drone technology within the profession.
Students also had the opportunity to get hands-on with surveying equipment, bringing the discussion to life and giving them a closer look at some of the technology used across the industry.
The session highlighted different routes into surveying and the variety of opportunities available in a profession that combines technology, problem solving and outdoor work. For students considering their next steps, it was a chance to discover an industry they may not previously have considered and understand how their interests and skills could translate into a future career.
