Clapham Park is one of the largest and most complex residential regeneration schemes in South London, delivering almost 3,500 new and refurbished homes alongside community facilities, public spaces and a new underground utility network. Plowman Craven worked as part of the design team alongside Ramboll, PRP Architects and Hoare Lea to produce a detailed 3D BIM model of the 34-hectare site. A multi-method survey strategy, including UAS technology, was adopted to accelerate data capture, manage access constraints and reduce programme time.
The scale of the regeneration and the active community environment required accurate spatial information across a large, densely populated site. The client needed a comprehensive survey that would enable coordinated design, minimise disruption and support long-term asset management.
Project requirements included:
Plowman Craven implemented a coordinated multi-technology survey programme, combining rapid data capture with rigorous quality control and structured BIM delivery standards.
Key survey and modelling activities included:
Specialist field teams worked in parallel shifts, supported by a dedicated project manager and lead surveyor to ensure technical oversight, coordination and clear communication with the wider design team.
This project demonstrates an effective blend of innovative capture techniques and disciplined BIM delivery, providing high-quality information at pace across a large, active environment.
UAS capture reduced survey time from ten weeks to one, supporting faster project decisions and cost efficiency.
Laser scanning, utility surveys and structured BIM workflows ensured precise outputs aligned with industry standards.
Rapid capture minimised time on site for staff and reduced interruptions for residents and construction teams.
Staged BIM outputs enabled early analysis and improved coordination across design disciplines.
“Plowman Craven’s approach allowed us to rethink what was possible at Bishopsgate Goodsyard. Their ability to safely capture data from complex and previously inaccessible areas was instrumental in supporting our upcycling strategy. It’s enabled us to move forward with a clearer understanding of what we can retain and enhance.”
The Clapham Park programme delivered a complete, information-rich 3D BIM model across the entire estate, providing a robust foundation for design, construction and long-term asset planning. The combination of rapid UAS capture, detailed scanning and coordinated delivery allowed the project to progress on programme, reduced on-site exposure and demonstrated Plowman Craven’s capability to manage complex, multi-disciplinary surveys at scale.
