From Temp to Tech Specialist: Mandy Mathieson’s 14-Year Journey at Plowman Craven
When Mandy Mathieson first joined Plowman Craven over 14 years ago on a temporary maternity cover contract, she could not have imagined how far that opportunity would take her.
What started as a short-term admin role evolved into a career built on curiosity, adaptability and a love of making things run smoothly.
“I came in to support with duty of care letters for the Asset Management team,” Mandy recalls. “Then one role led to another, I moved into operations support, supervised a team, helped restructure reporting, and eventually found my place in HR systems.”
That move into HR was a turning point. Mandy quickly became the go-to person for HR systems, from implementing new platforms and migrating data to building analytics dashboards that provide clear insights for leadership.
“I love the systems side,” she says. “It’s satisfying to create something that just works and makes people’s jobs easier. Building analytics reports from scratch was one of my favourite projects.”
But it’s not all about tech. Mandy is also passionate about people, particularly developing others.
“Managing our two apprentices was a challenge at first, they were completely new to office life, but watching their confidence grow was really rewarding. It’s amazing to think I helped shape their careers as they learned everything from scratch.”
Like many at Plowman Craven, Mandy values the flexibility and support that make it possible to juggle a busy HR role with family life.
“Having that trust and autonomy mean a lot. I can be there for my children and still deliver what the business needs.”
After 14 years, what keeps her motivated? “The people. The teams. The way things are always evolving. There’s always something new to learn, and that’s what makes it such a great place to work.”
